Bodymoor Heath
Bodymoor Heath is the training ground of Aston Villa FC.
Brief History
Bodymoor Heath has been home to Aston Villa’s training facilities since they were opened in 1971. At the time, the facilities were considered to be the most advanced of their type. Thirty-four years on, in October 2005, the club unveiled plans for an £8million redevelopment. Work began immediately, but by the end of the 2005/06 season, plans were put on hold (reportedly due to lack of funds).
Following the club’s takeover, Randolph Lerner immediately ordered work to resume. The new training ground was opened by Dennis Mortimer, Gareth Barry and Martin O’Neill in May 2007. Now, Villa are one of only three English clubs to boast a pool with an underwater treadmill, moveable floor and underwater video monitoring system. The training ground also includes an indoor playing area, hot and cold plunge pools, as well as four new full size grass pitches. The final cost of redevelopment totalled £13million.

When to go...
The gaffer calls the shots when it comes to training times. The squad train most mornings, typically finishing around midday. If the weather is good and you have some time on your hands, the training ground has a viewing area allowing visitors to watch training sessions in progress. At the end of training sessions, most players will be happy to sign autographs as they leave the grounds.
Before heading down, I would advise giving the club a call on +44 (0)121 327 2299 to check whether the squad are training and to confirm training times.
